Calvert is celebrating 25 years of serving the citizens of West Texas!

Calvert Home Health Care, Ltd. was founded in Lubbock in June, 1987 by Marjorie Calvert, RN. Calvert Home Health was one of the original home health agencies to open on the South Plains and was in business well before home health became popular. In 1997 Mrs. Calvert sold the business to a company in the Dallas area. The late 1990’s were a turbulent period for home health and the company that owned Calvert quickly became disenchanted with the business and sold Calvert Home Health to Dana & Ronnie Madison on January 15, 1999. When the Madison’s purchased Calvert it had 15+ employees serving 70+ patients. Calvert grew quickly during 1999 and by the end of the year it had 75+ employees serving 300+ patients.

During the period from 1999 – 2006 Calvert opened six branch locations in the Lubbock and surrounding areas. In 2007 Calvert opened a sister home health agency, Compassion Home Care, in Amarillo, Texas. Compassion Home Care now has three locations in Amarillo, 20+ employees and serves 100+ patients daily. In 2008 Calvert made a significant expansion with the purchase of the home health agencies that belonged to Covenant Hospital System. With this purchase Calvert expanded their coverage area to include Plainview, Levelland, Crosbyton and Midland.

Since the Covenant acquisition Calvert has added additional offices and as of 2012 Calvert/Compassion now has sixteen office locations serving over 50 West Texas counties. Over 25% of the Calvert/Compassion staff has been with the company since January, 1999. In recent years Calvert has been recognized as a HomeCare Elite agency which places them in the top 25% of home health agencies nationally.

Dana and Ronnie Madison continue to own and operate Calvert and this local ownership keeps Calvert in tune with the needs of the communities that they serve. The goal of Calvert has never been to be the largest home health agency, just the best!
